A personal observation that I dislike is it seems many of the Sharkey instances experience issues.

It is a shame, because I do like Sharkey. But one of the reasons I kept hopping from one instance to another instance is I would join these so-called well-known instances, only for them to have some issues.

Mastodon is "OK". I dislike that you cannot move your post with Mastodon. I have a backup of all my content on my local PC which I can port into any Sharkey instance, but Mastodon moving means starting over.

relays are nice :)

I was able to grow my own instance by

  1. having people that followed me to there.
  2. relays
  3. replies

Lol. Come to Fedi. Make 8 posts over the course of 3 months all monetized or on other platforms. Get no engagement. Bitch about no engagement and leave. :kekwait: :kek: :kekl:

@BeAware you have to post and just talk to people... like ah

The day I "vote" for my favorite rich person to get richer, you may as well put a bullet in my head...😒🙄

Y'all are drinking this Kool-Aid WAY too much...

It's called theatrics and y'all are being worked.🤦‍♂️

This is kinda pathetic tbh.

Open your eyes. You have no power. The only power you have is being taken from you because you're being tricked into thinking you have a choice in the matter.

The only true choice you have is how you live your life. Right now, you're living your life believing a lie...

@akurilov PS. Registering new domains for your data theft isn't gonna stop people from blocking it.

Also, accepting a follow request ≠ allowing posts to be scraped and sold.

How fucking dense are you? Just get the fuck off Fedi you dumb cunt.

What domain?

That just sounds like someone using awakari (an open source piece of software)

@BeAware @akurilov

I haven't seen any evidence of that... They seem to be an alerting thing...

It seems to be fairly easy to opt-out

https://github.com/awakari/.github/blob/master/OPT-OUT.md

I've never used awakari or had to interact with that bot— I think this is mainly an issue for people on big instances— which if you are— your data is already public.. I dont see this any different than a google search engine.

Interesting new ActivityPub project called @hollo for a single user instance!

It still has to build features that are required for mass adopting (blocking and muting aren't implemented yet) but I'm really interested in single user instance software that's somewhat minimalistic so whenever it's fully released, I might try it out!

fbievan ,
@fbievan@alpha.polymaths.social avatar

@BeAware @hollo

nice another piece of software that is nice is gotosocial :)

fbievan ,
@fbievan@alpha.polymaths.social avatar

@BeAware @hollo

yeah- the UI is basically useless other than for viewing posts and profiles online... since there is no features in there.

fbievan ,
@fbievan@alpha.polymaths.social avatar

@BeAware @hollo

I think you can just inject the CSS yourself (assuming you use a reverse proxy for the interface)... of course that isn't an amazing solution for hollo- But from what I've read hollo doesn't plan to really have a big UI... "Hollo does not have its own web interface. Instead, it implements Mastodon-compatible APIs so that you can integrate it with the most of the existing Mastodon clients."

the more important thing is the software- and hollo is written in typescript? Which is interesting- I haven't ever seen anything written on this stack before- I guess this might be useful for some people- But I myself don't have any interest with bun and typescript at all...

I mean you could just configure the UI to litterally whatever with a well-written web server config.

Well...even Fediverse isn't immune to enshittification.

I have a feeling it'll be a LOT less social here once Mastodon implements this...🤦‍♂️🤬

My plan is to be off this ridiculous software before they implement such stupid things.

I thought this was SOCIAL Media, not "yell into the void" Media.

fbievan ,
@fbievan@alpha.polymaths.social avatar

@BeAware

cool- trying pushing this to other activitypub implmentations- I wonder what happens?

I think this is a well-intentioned feature that could be executed poorly. I think that restricting comments shouldn't federate at all- only happening on the server who decides that...

fbievan ,
@fbievan@alpha.polymaths.social avatar

@BeAware

See: https://docs.gotosocial.org/en/latest/user_guide/posts/#replyable

for an idea of how this should work.

the important thing is that other users and servers shouldn't be affected...

fbievan ,

@BeAware

the most important concern here is that dicussion can still happen even without the author's knowledge- as they intended

fbievan ,
@fbievan@alpha.polymaths.social avatar

@BeAware yeah- I think the way that fedi works currently - doens't really allow someone to truly kill discussion- as that reply was likely pulled in through a relay or someone you follow posted it, or whatever.

What I don't want to see here is mastodon servers federating the replyiblity outside of their own silo.

No reply data is gathered from the mastodon server in the first place- So I just hope they don't change the fact that people can reply to the post in the first place.

I wish for something where they can limit it for them, but not anyone else, as that would fundamentally kill the idea that each server hosts their copy...

The Mastodon developers started to implement telemetry for everything you search for: Posts, Accounts, Tags

https://github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon/commit/acc77c3836974473e7c6a423cbd1138479ae197a

I'm not so sure if I like what I see in this commit. But we all knew it would be coming eventually.

So important that we build Mastodon-compatible server alternatives.

In the original PR, they said why it was done.

I dont get what the author is doing tbh.
