Unfortunately, as much as I like and use firefox on both pc and mobile, chrome and chromium based browsers dominate the market. It doesn't help that they come pre-installed in both cases.

I wish... 8C with heavy rain is pretty far from ideal. Light jacket is enough, but umbrella and weather proof shoes also needed. YMMV

That litter box looks tiny or these are some very large tiles. Either way it's probably worth getting a covered litter box, no more sand everywhere

Not all bots are bad, the piped bot is nice and there are others too

Eh, it happened to bigger entities...

Israel quietly rolled out a mass facial recognition program in the Gaza Strip ( www.theverge.com )

Israel has deployed a mass facial recognition program in the Gaza Strip, creating a database of Palestinians without their knowledge or consent, The New York Times reports. The program, which was created after the October 7th attacks, uses technology from Google Photos as well as a custom tool built by the Tel Aviv-based company...

I don't think anyone would risk that with GDPR.

And this is why lemmy will never get close to what reddit was. On top of the cumbersome registration process and difficulty of navigating the fediverse for the non-tech people, there is also the issue of de-federation and censorship. This is no better then reddit unfortunately. It makes me sad, this really seemed like a good idea, but the implementation is so poor.

People were saying it won't matter what instance you choose, everything is federated and you choose what you want to see, but clearly the instance admins make that choice for you and it absolutely does matter the instance you choose.

Paying for mullvad via mailed cash

God I hope this isn't a stupid question to ask but how exactly do I send out cash? Do i need to add a return address and won't that defeat the purpose? I really just want to try the service for 2-3 months after that I'll probably switch over to the amazon vouchers since I don't want to deal with monero. I think I sent out an...

Nah, water wouldn't vaporize instantly, it takes a while. But the mug would definetly crack from thermal shock. Unless it would be a metal mug in which case it might work. The coffee would probably be boiling in seconds.

fatalError ,

It's not like you throw the cup straight in though. Just open the door slightly and bring the mug close. The metal will conduct the heat well and considering that water has a pretty decent heat capacity it won't blow up instantly.

Not all IoT is bad... If you decide to get some cloud IoT and keep it on the main network that's on you, but you could have a separate vlan or even a separate protocol like zigbee and z-wave to secure these devices and control them locally with home assistant. It might not be good enough for highly sensitive enterprise environments, but more than enough for average Joe who's not being targeted by APTs or espionage

While I do agree with you, some cheats manipulate the memory itself so you would need some elevated privilages to dectect them as the cheats themsevles run with these privileges

fatalError ,

So, still broken? How can we even check the status of the federation ?

fatalError ,

That's a shame. Problems like this is why lemmy won't go very far imo. Expecting a random person on the internet to go through the signup process which involves applying for an account on some instances is wishful thinking, them understanding what federation is and how it works is very optimistic, but then braking the federation with no warning and no action plan for fixing it is just shooting yourself in the foot.
