I hate the internet.

Trying to look up safe exposure limits for various wavelengths of near-UV light and 90% of the results are AI-generated garbage with top of the page statements like "UV light in the 400-550nm range is especially dangerous" like BRUH... 400 is visible spectrum. 550 is YELLOW. or shit suggesting staring directly into 405nm lasers is a-ok.

You cannot trust ANY information on the internet anymore. It's not just all lies--it's all dangerous lies.

Another great article by @pluralistic

https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/24/naming-names/

Companies choose not to enshittify their products…until they choose to do so. One theory to explain this is that companies are engaged in a process of continuous assessment, gathering data about their competitive risks, their regulators' mettle, their employees' boldness. When these assessments indicate that the conditions are favorable to enshittification, the CEO walks over to the big "enshittification" lever on the wall and yanks it all the way to MAX.

@SiteRelEnby @pluralistic Enshittification is the process of following through on continually reducing costs and maximizing profits well past the point of declining quality and value. To the consumers, they just see the declining quality and value and call it enshittification. But the capitalists have another word for it. They call it business. Enshittification is the natural goal of all business in a capitalist system. Maximum profits. The only thing standing in their way is the ability for consumers to just not buy their products. However, as they grow in capital and market share, they can squeeze more and more enshittification in to their products and people will tolerate it because they lack alternatives. Once they have a monopoly on something that people require for their daily lives, the lever can finally be thrown to max.
