My dad has been watching bad youtube since they funnel people to bad content— he likes political news and to keep up with the war in Ukraine— what are some better youTube channels I can subscribe him to to clean up his feed? now it has that guy who always lies saying Russia is about to win on it — I showed him how he has said the same thing for two years and I think he’s ready for new stuff.

@futurebird I highly recommend Beau of the Fifth column. Don’t let his looks or mannerisms make you think he is of a certain type.

If you want to check it out beforehand, check out his most highly watched videos from a few years ago.

You can automatically hide posts you don't want to see by using Mastodon's filter system.

Filters can hide posts containing particular words, parts of words, phrases, hashtags, web addresses or emoji. There are instructions for setting up filters, and lots of extra tips about filters, at:

Filters can be used to hide anything you don't want to see: offensive stuff, spam, topics you're bored of... anything. Some use it for hiding Wordle posts 😁

@FediTips @vintprox If the posts being described are the same as the most recent version of the spam posts I’ve seen, there is no “text” other than the five mentioned accounts. There is an image and that’s it. Example:

@ @ instance-1.com
@ @ instance-2.com
@ @ instance-3.com
@ @ instance-4.com
@ @ instance-5.com
[ spam image ]

From what I understand, there is nothing that a text filter could identify to block that.
