It's fascinating to me looking at beginning language guides and thinking "what does this say about the culture of the language"

When I was delving into it was (with affection) "here's hello world and here's a dense academic paper on implementing event systems in OCaml 5!"

guides used to be centered on the assumption that you were a web programmer looking to do applets, even long after that assumption died.

generally seems to assume a background in programming w/ a CLI.

If you think that Biden isn't harm reduction from Trump, I don't even know what to say.

I don't like the man, and I have more reasons to dislike him than most, he wasn't even in my top 5 in the last election.

But the difference between him and Trump is night and day

"It's just cryptofascism" no, no it isn't, but even to the degree it were, the amount of damage that Trump can do is orders of magnitude higher and claiming these are identical is accelerationist at best and genocidal at worst

The problem with being someone who takes jets very infrequently isn’t that you start to miss flying on jets, it’s that you start to miss airport terminals despite objectively knowing they’re real world versions of a capitalist, bureaucratic purgatory.

A while back, in another company, I asked what defined "no code™" because we had a really complex product that could be configured with XML but which had so many levers that it required specialists. To the degree where you could find job postings for it.

The answer I got back led me to believe that execs didn't know what "no code" was any more than I did 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mind you, I still think that's a good product, and I'm still just as confused by what "no code" means other than marketspeak.

@hrefna apl was supposed to be easy for non-programmers to learn, and is still marketed as such by dyalog, so nothing suits say really means anything

So Sorawo Kamikoshi () basically reads to me as aegosexual. I'm not sure I've ever seen that portrayed, especially not by an author who I'm not sure would know that term (though he's clearly at least somewhat familiar with asexuality), so it's really awesome to see.
