19 January 1902 | A Jewish artist David Olère was born in Warsaw. In 1918 he emigrated to France.

In March 1943 he was deported to Auschwitz where he was forced to work in Sonderkommando. After the war he showed the horrifying world of gas chambers in drawings & paintings.

A painting showing a man in a striped camp uniform. A number can be seen tattooed on his exposed arm: 106144. The man is kneeling and collecting food into a bag. Next to him lies a doll. In the corner you can see a red triangle with the letter F and the number 106144. In the background you can see a building with a chimney from which fire and smoke are coming out. You can also see a cart with corpses being pulled by prisoners and also the fence of the concentration camp.
