More work on the X68000 PSU. Managed to re-pin and rewire the power harness. First time ever I'm doing anything like this. The continuity seems to be OK everywhere, and there are no obvious shorts. It matches the wiring diagrams I find online.

Make your bets if it will work, or I'll end up with a very expensive Japanese paperweight. 😅 Soon we'll know. Fingers crossed. 🤞 cc: @spook

Before-After picture of the repined power connector.
The original X68000 power harness wired into the PicoPSU board's screw terminals.
And the whole contraption hooked up to the X68000. Will use an external power brick to fire up the PicoPSU first.

I plugged in the external power brick I normally use with the Atari Falcon060, that also has a PicoPSU powering it.

Some LEDs came on, and no burning smell yet! ... 😰

Red LED close up, that came on on the twin tower itself.

Holy cow! It's working! 😍 🎉 cc: @spook

Note: something is not okay with the soft power on, so I have to switch on the machine first, and then switch on the PSU. I'll investigate it later.

The "give me something to boot from" message in Japanese. :) It says (according to Google): "Unable to boot from disk. Please insert the correct disc."

I tried to salvage the harness from the old X68000 PSU, but the main power plug was heavily corroded and some of the pins inside broke apart as I tried to disassemble it for cleaning. This means no X68000 testing today. However I ordered a Noctua fan, and a few more things.

In other news, does anyone know what's this plug called, and if I can still get it? Technically I do not even need the plastic part, as that's salvageable, just some pins...

The plastic case of the plug that should go on it.
The plastic case of the plug that should go on it, from another side.
The pins that were inside of the case, some of them damaged, bent, or broken, after heavy corrosion.

@altomare DING DING DING DING we have a winner!

Thank you so much, this is it indeed. Also, I was today's year's old, when I learned that JST stands for Japanese Solderless Terminals. Which totally checks out for the X68000.

@altomare @spook I got this machine from @spook, so it's pretty much possible it's the same exact issue... I mean, literally the same. 😁

She got two machines from Japan, and I guess, the Expert HD I've got served a bit of a parts machine for her Super(? maybe), plus she recapped it for me, did some floppy drive maintenance and then threw it at me, so it's my problem now. 😅

How common is it? I don't know.

I've never been so insulted by something I 100% agree with.
