Leveraging https://FediDB.org for community moderation and safety tools isn't a new idea.

I look forward to prototyping this after Groups and the new app are released!

@dansup oh no this is going to mean yet another tool for deliberately isolating trans women... I hope you'll reconsider this but not holding my breath.

I’m crying on the bus (again) because some middle school kids decided that for their “design challenge” they’d envision an emergency food delivery drone that could fly high enough and fast enough that no one could shoot it down. And no one asked why someone would want to shoot down a food delivery drone— or why you couldn’t just drive a truck.

@futurebird my most charitable interpretation as to why someone would want to shoot down a food delivery drone: one side in a war is actively trying to cut off food supplies.

As for why not drive a truck? It could be extremely dangerous for the driver to go through an active warzone, and minimizing harm as much as possible while providing food aid might have been a goal for these designers.

Even so, this doesn't change how fucked up it is to even have to design around such problems.

Have you ever stopped listening to or trusting a person who posts information in media, or online because of a "red flag" ?

That is are there certain topics, habits, actions etc. that instantly decrease your trust in a person you might have otherwise listened to on a podcast, article, or video?

Are there any "green flags" that build trust?

ch0ccyra1n ,
@ch0ccyra1n@emeraldsocial.org avatar

@futurebird that's a good question! Admittedly I find that I trust anarchists more than uhh, not anarchists. Also if they're willing to talk about issues that affect me personally I'm more trusting of them on other issues.

If you are a cis person and you have "trans rights are human rights" in your bio I am generally going to assume that you are not a safe person.

Similarly. If you put "Ally" in your bio I am going to assume you aren't one.

Not because it is bad to flag that "Trans rights are human rights," but because it is too easy: you are really only advertising who you are to followers and potential followers, and that is a very easy thing to do without having done the work.

@hrefna out of curiosity, what is "the work"? I'm a fellow trans woman myself and I've had a hard time figuring out what is even worth expecting of actual allies.

@dansup tries to put it into the search on my instance

I'm guessing it's not federating yet?

There was this one character in a book whose favorite movie was Star Wars, but only for the scrolling text exposition at the beginning. I can't remember the name of the book or character, but if anyone on @bookstodon happens to know what I'm talking about, please let me know! (Or maybe I'm just imagining things?)

Pixelfed Groups even supports and

This opens up so many more federation possibilities 😍

@dansup will these events federate with software like Mobilizon and Friendica?

If a desktop environment follows you, would you feel the obligation to try it?

Like its almost as if this was meant to be, it looks similar to MacOS which I use atm... spooky

ch0ccyra1n ,
@ch0ccyra1n@emeraldsocial.org avatar

@dansup I ended up gravitating to GNOME as a former Mac user so definitely try it!

ch0ccyra1n ,
@ch0ccyra1n@emeraldsocial.org avatar

@punkisundead absolutely opposed to it. From my experiences in the local activist scene which tends to emphasize left unity, it's especially shitty as an anarchist to be talked down because of my issues with tons of hierarchy and abuse in those orgs because "we've gotta have left unity". The only solution I can think of is to split off and commit to anarchist principles, knowing that it will alienate many.
