God its incredible how much quality of sports subs has declined in the last few years. I’ve been going on r/soccer for like 15 years and its just completely unreadable now. Just twitter tier shit flinging and highly reactionary content at every turn

I've posted about this before but I am beyond sick of the reaction towards Arab (or chinese or russian) rich people buying clubs and pumping money into them. They bang on about "sportswashing" as if KSA or UAE give a fuck about the opinion westerners have on them. You really think that the Saudi public investment fund is buying Newcastle cause they give a shit about the opinion geordies have on their monarchy ? Just ridiculous racist nonsense. No one is happy about the sport being ruined by big money and profit motives but according to that board a Brit or American doing it is not a problem, just an issue when its not white people

Parenti’s book is excellent and I think feeds well into the theories that Hudson has about this topic, though I havent delved into his books specifically on it yet.

I think the main gist of it though is that the rise of Greek/Roman society marked the end of pro-debtor economic practices such as debt jubilees and regular land reform. Someone smarter and more well read than me should correct if I’m wrong but I believe he tries to detail a common thread of pro-creditor policy becoming dominate to the point of ruin in western society. The Roman Empire did not fall due to any specific events but rather the accumulation of economic mismanagement in service to the ruling classes that rotted the very core of the superstructure of these societies, to which there are obvious parallels to today.

The firewall is also good for westerners cause it protects their feeble fragile minds from hundreds of millions of Chinese shitposters
