@BeAware When Duckduckgo went off I didn't even notice at first untill I saw on Mastodon because I just use Searx instances which relies on a variety of search engines so Incase something like this happens again, Search is pretty reliable about staying up.

Gotta love when someone uses the mastodon or Fediverse hashtags to show their ass, dogs, cats, flowers, etc or even say they haven't seen spam. All adding to the actual spam on those hashtags, making them unusable.

Don't you LOVE that, Fedi?

@BeAware the mastidon hashtag can be a great way to reach more people that's why irrelevant posts will use it. Ido think it can be spam but as the occasional 'bloom scroll' hurting you that much?

You can expect Mastodon to be the heaviest used hashtag.

@BeAware makes perfect sense. but that is why people use the hashtag because it is popular. once you understand that then you see why it gets bloated with spam.

Do you filter out keywords? Doing this would elimate most of what you would not want to see. By blocking users on Mastodon you risk losing out on some maybe good content. Personally I feel blocking the user should be a last resort unless

a. you can't filter out what they posted or b. it's a topic you generally don't want to see.

@BeAware You know what we need? filters set per user you interact with. tedeious but it would work for your purposes.

Just curious, to those BlueSky enthusiasts out there:

How is BlueSky considered "decentralized" when there's only 1 company that controls the rules and who can and cannot post stuff?🤔

That's not what decentralized means...😬

Decentralized means power is spread out so that one central individual or group doesn't control everything.

BlueSky is not that. BlueSky is centralized and nothing about it is "federated".

The ATproto just seems like theatrics to generate interest in something that isn't really there...😳

@BeAware @morph It's centralised but you get different communities or projects on it. If its litterally all on Bluesky it's not really decentralised its an illusion of such.

Do the projects/communities on Bluesky use their own servers? Had there been any times when Blue sky stepped in and said no to something and shut down a project? That's what I would be looking at if I were using it.

@BeAware @morph But has this censoeship occured on Bluesky? I know that Bluesky is not decentralised but have they banned people on there or stopped projects or communities in their tracks. If they had, that's how you really know if its decentralized or not. Without getting into the technicals of it.

Really it just sounds like Discord or Amino apps. With different communities but all centralised to the same rules of the platform.

@BeAware No im asking if they took moderative action on the pkatform. if they did then that proves it to me(which I don't need), but also to other people who might believe its decentralised that its not which was what I was really going for.

I agree 100% that its decentralised but im asking if they enforce rules or if they just allow a wild west on Bluesky.
