To all of you who are celebrating the fact that if the most recent polls are to be believed, the Tories might be pushed into third place in the election by Reform....

Take a moment to think what it says about our country that Reform's support base is growing.

I hate the Tories as much as anyone, but seeing them replaced by an even more repellent bunch of right wing nut-jobs & their growing support, is not in any way a good thing!

@RolloTreadway @ChrisMayLA6 It will be the same birdbrains who can't hold one idea in their heads at the same time; the Kipper voters, the Brexit Party voters.

@RolloTreadway @ChrisMayLA6 I'll qualify my rudeness by mentioning a longstanding acquaintance is standing for them locally. He's a successful self-exployed man & perfectly smart. Perhaps there's something that draws in self-reliant people, who do seem to develop a tendancy to conclude 'everybody should be more like me'. I am, i am afraid, aghast. Agreeing to be a flunky for Farage & standing for his ltd company suggests, to me, that he has taken leave of his senses. If he wins, i'll eat my cap.

@RolloTreadway @ChrisMayLA6 The incumbant Tory "isn't standing" (ran away). The seat was formerly Labour some 15 years ago. It's the least affluent quarter of the City. Like you, fingers crossed.

So the good news is that the bill to exonerate the SubPostmasters gained Royal Assent last night, freeing up the fixed compensation scheme for those whose convictions are now quashed (or allowing them to apply to have their individual case assessed).

The, perhaps, not so good news, as much legal commentary has been focusing on is the (potential) precedent it sets for governments to reverse the decisions of Courts.

In this case it would seem pretty just, but in the future?

@RolloTreadway @ChrisMayLA6 With you Rollo, up to your concluding sentence, to which i might venture to add that the Courts also take into account principles of justice, fairness (equity) equality before the law, international norms & decisions of other Common Law jurisdictions, and the admissible scope of ministerial & administrative powers under, in particular, secondary legislation. Throw in a few 2000 year old precepts from Roman jurisprudence, too. So may it continue.

Senate Democrats Open Inquiry Into #Trump’s $1 Billion Request of Oil Industry

Two committees are seeking information from oil executives about a dinner where, the lawmakers say, the former president proposed a quid pro quo.

@Natasha_Jay City AM were enthusiastic cheerleaders for Brexit, to the detriment of their core readership (who are city of london financial services industry workers, picking up a copy at the tube exit). Their lack of understanding & foresight at the damage to investment confidence in UK plc permanently burned their credibility on political matters for me.

Even the MPs "standing down" at the next General Election can't resist hanging on for that last big freebie - the Westminster Parliamentary recess over Summer. Last chance to head to a "donor's" villa in Tuscany, Bordeaux, Marbella or Mustique for a month at public expense while doing sweet FA.

When they get back, time to start ordering the cardboard boxes....

Are the attacks on Anglea Rayner driven by snobbery, or to be clearer; classism?

Well when we compare her political treatment & the DWP's now toxic position on unpaid carers, with the lightness of touch when dealing with the wealthy (either in politics or when found to have broken tax-related laws), I think we can safely say that distinctions of class as drivers for public/official attitudes are ver much alive & kicking!

@RolloTreadway @ChrisMayLA6 Thoroughly agree, & Johnson is an absolutely dreadful orator 'er...Mr Speaker..what i have to say to the Right Honourable Genentleman is this...um...Mr Speaker...Mr Speaker...' Scores of Labour MPs wipe the floor with him on quality of their public speaking & their intellect. I've heard them doing it, in Parliament Square.

He’s trying to get someone killed… again.

Via Kyle Griffin:

Engoron, along with his court staff, have received numerous threatening messages from Trump supporters since the civil fraud trial.

Any firm of solicitors approached by a company, must establish the identity of the people-owners of the company, before agreeing to act for it.

The identity of the "director" of a company is virtually meaningless. A director is not necessarily "the boss" & frequently little more than a hireling.

UK public records about companies (published online by Companies House) list directors but not owners. Change is needed: Controlling 'beneficial' owners names must be published, on the public pages.
