i think people underrate the fact that mastodon has a server just for church of the subgenius people. they focus on the fact that there are enough of them for an entire server and not that you can block the whole thing in like 15 seconds

i think the thing about stories set in space is you just have to think of it as a fun setting for telling stories and not anything about any actual future, in the way that medieval european fantasy doesn't really have much to do with any actual past

for me i have a few things holding me off from switching to linux, one is that i don't have the physical ability to be on my computer for as long as it would take to configure it for what i need. another is that a device i use 3-4 times a week only has beta linux drivers. and there's just so much smarmy condescension and arrogance to assume that i can just solve those problems

a lot of foss stuff requires you to basically take it up as a hobby, and some people have other shit they'd rather be doing, and evangelists can't handle that. it would be super weird for me to be like "you aren't making the right moral choices because you won't play incredibly niche rpgs on the weekends like i do"
