Sometimes known as plumblossom or ritaxis. I write when my conditions allow me. I'm an old: I live in California Central Coast & tread water a lot. I make my clothes of old plaid curtains, tablecloths & bedsheets, & I crochet my sweaters of other people's leftover wool. I'm very sad about twitter, because I used to follow all the young scientists, artists, & activists there, & I can't believe I'll ever see such a wealth of diversity again.
When I write, it's mostly a bit weird SFF, kinda gentle.

OK that's ENOUGH #earthquakes for NYC for one day. I do not like this.

At exactly 6:00 the Bronx vibrated like every subwoofer in every boom car was going by the building at once for about 20 seconds.

Nope. Don't like it. #earthquake

@futurebird That earthquake is big enough for aftershocks, but not what we in earthquake country call big.

@pluralistic While I'm enjoying Lost Cause for the story, biggest best take-away is mention of using a skillet to warm up left-over pizza.

Damn, game-changer. (Assuming one plays games with pizza. I just eat it.)

The cast-iron skillet I found by the side of the road and refurbed fits three slices.

A cast iron skillet on the edge of a sink. A wad of steel wool sits on it.

@StefanEJones @alexisdyslexic @pluralistic People in despair of handling it any more for any of many reasons, who don't have someone to pass it on to

Fact of The Day: Most photos of weaver ants show an ant angry that a photographer is too close to her tree.

Car colors have grown more drab over the decades. I viewed this as a good thing. Cars are the prestige items they once were. Not a thing to impress anyone, just a machine. However, someone pointed out that the most popular colors now are a safety risk. They are the same color as the road or fog.

Tax break for bright purple and orange cars? Could it save lives?

LucyKemnitzer ,
@LucyKemnitzer@wandering.shop avatar

@futurebird "Popular" colors? Nope, available colors. I dearly wanted a pretty colored car. I could not have one. Manufacturers only make gray cars, silver cars, darker gray cars, black cars, off black cars, goldy gray cars, white cars, off white cars, blinding white cars. Oh, & two or three red or blue cars which you cannot buy. When I got my Leaf there was one blue car 400 miles away that the dealer would not give up. As it was they had to cart my offwhite one from another city.

Does the word “agnostic” imply indifference? One could be unable to stake out a position; care about the question very much, yet still not be in a position to advocate a particular answer. If that is not agnostic what is it? What if you want to reject the idea as framed, reject “sides” & picking one. What is it to seek to maximize cohabitable truths as long as they do not contradict or prohibit each other to thrive. As long as their shepherds are compassionate to all people, you say: Yes, and!

LucyKemnitzer ,
@LucyKemnitzer@wandering.shop avatar

@futurebird that is often how I use the word myself!

Ants Canada (Mikey Bustos) is the largest "Ant YouTuber" and now and then someone finds out I like ants and says "oh you should watch Ants Canada." (which is kind of like suggesting that serious foodie "check out Iron Chef") -- If you go into the "online ant-keeping community" you'll find a surprising amount of antipathy for Bustos, is it jealousy? Serious professional disagreements? It always seemed odd to me but I think I know why this is happening. It's three main factors: 1/

@futurebird @apophis I hate to be that one who screens shows for kids but honestly I only show the grand goblin stuff I already know about- which means, mostly, stuff from the last century.

I have complex, deeply mixed and confused feelings about jargon. Part of me loves jargon. I love precise terminology, little used words, and they can be so useful. At the same time, I'm not a fan of that feeling that you would be able to understand something ... but someone piled up jargon in the way just to keep you out.

Is there a way to thread the needle? To indulge in obscure vocabularies but avoid gatekeeping?

LucyKemnitzer ,
@LucyKemnitzer@wandering.shop avatar

@futurebird The way to thread the needle is to feel your way and take which turns seem to get your through, correcting course as you go.
