I love Jesus but not the church as is. I church here, around my dining room table, in the grocery store and on my front porch. I'm a firm egalitarian and am actively taking my life back from the patriarchy. I am a friend of anyone wounded or in the margins, loving the person in front of me as a way of life.

If there is one thing I’ve learned (and that’s being generous) from caring for my brother it’s that the line between disabled and abled (physically, intellectually, developmentally, etc.) is much more porous, unfixed, and ephemeral than we want to admit; attempting to rigidly categorize and classify ourselves and others ‘once and for all’ is at best futile.

@nathanlovestrees Yes! As if there is no gray area, no gradient, no room for incredibly able in this area, and not as able in that area, or good days vs bad days, or a change in the weather or stress level wreaking havoc on one's level of ability.

The lines and where they are set are incredibly limiting in themselves, because once you put someone on one side or the other of the line, with the label affixed to your whole person, you're stuck there. So. Stuck.

I think of Sister Monica Joan on 'Call the Midwife'. She appears oblivious most of the time, in her own little world created by her dementia, only to speak these pearls of kind and brave wisdom.

None of us are all and only one thing. The world likes to operate with two crayons, black and white, when really the world is way more like a box of crayons with 97 buh-million colors.

Culinary gatekeepers suck. If you enjoy "lowbrow" cuisine, don't let anyone belittle you over it. Reject foodshaming.

I'm an adult who enjoys all kinds of foods but sometimes I still want a bowl of plain buttered noodles.

What are your favorite treats that "they" try to make you feel embarrassed about?

@Cloudscout I sent my boys, both foodies and both in their 30s, a video yesterday of how to add cheese or peanut butter to a tortilla, fold it just so, and drop it into a standard toaster for toasty gooey goodness.

One replied: needs applesauce.

I replied: dipping cup.

Their lives are transformed and transported back to their childhoods all at one.

Their partners think we are all nuts and we're good with that. 😆

I just had a realization.

It was (and is) always so confusing when The Bad Straights claimed “gay people getting married will ruin the institution for everyone.”

But I think they always meant that if two men or two women can get married, then marriage must not be defined by a man obtaining a woman as servant/property & securing exclusive rights to her labor, identity, & body.

And without that, they can’t even imagine what purpose marriage could ever serve.

@KeithAmmann @Catvalente @abucci Absolutely. Never thought for a minute that he endorsed it. He just defined the hell out of it!
