A Pocket Guide to Pigeon Watching: Getting to Know the World's Most Misunderstood Bird by Rosemary Mosco. 5/5

A fun read, recommended by bookstodon that I gobbled in two days! A basic overall introduction to pigeons with fun facts and cute illustrations. From history to anatomy, it really deepened my interest in this otherwise common but fascinating bird.

I've always liked them and had a couple of rescues in my lifetime. This book made me like them even more haha

Yes, the book does touch on them being an invasive species and we're the ones to blame. There was a paragraph about the tragedy of the passenger pigeon and the dodo so that was a new thing I learned. The book does not encourage breeding and even discourages feeding them in cities because we have enough it is.

As an European reader their invasiveness wasn't my main concern. Where I'm from other columbids suffer more from humans shooting them (especially wood pigeons) than from competition with feral rock doves.
