Hi and welcome! I'm a former retro games enthusiast from Pakistan, if you want to chat games or life or whatever I am more than happy to.
If you would like to know a little about me I serve as a doctor and am stuck here for the next 9 years at least, then who knows where life will take me. I enjoy reading, fishing, anime, cinema, nature & film photography. Most probably, I will retreat to a forest or the mountains.

Deaths mount as #Pakistan swelters in #heatwave

"However, the rising numbers of dead came as temperatures in #Karachi soared above 40C (104F), with the high humidity making it feel as hot as 49C, reports said.

Experts agree these sorts of extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense as a result of climate change.
The heatwave roasting Karachi is expected to last into next week, albeit with slightly lower temperatures forecast."

It is pretty bad even here in Peshawar, our public hospitals are overburdened. And that is one of the "cooler" cities.

Here in Peshawar, most heat stroke cases come from areas where the power company cuts electricity for 12 hours or more. The fact that they think they are doing a kindness by reducing it to 12 hours sums up how hellish things are

Various ministers and small legions of people have been storming and occupying grid stations due to this very reason and are being painted as villains by the government (which itself is illegitimate) along ethnofascist lines.

Indeed, we also have brown outs where the power company limits the voltage, so you can't run most appliances anyway. There is this myth that we make more power than we need but it is lost in infrastructural issues, but in fact the actual issue is far more complex (we don't meet the actual demand for one)

The fact that everyone is using battery backups also causes voltage issues with our power grid, besides solar systems overloading transformers.

Indeed, a lot of homes have solar systems now and that helps them cut costs. Unfortunately, our transformers in most areas are outdated and they're not well equipped to take the power that's being generated by all these systems and keep the grid stable (built for 1-way) It's why there are many abrupt power cuts during maximum sunlight hours in many regions. Of course, the ones with systems don't realize that.

Our grid system is frankenstein's monster, and has 1000s of issues.
