There is one thing — and one thing only — that Trump wants from his vice president: Absolute loyalty.

If they won’t serve Trump’s will over all else, they’re immediately disqualified.

This is how things work in a dictatorial regime.

@rbreich

This assumes Trump gets to select his running mate.
Are any particular plutocrats, and/or Putin, pulling those strings?

Day1 Dictator says his gloves are coming off & handcuffs are going on anyone he chooses. But the most powerful people behind Project 2025 may leave a lot less to Trump’s chaos this time.

How do they feel about Michael Flynn? That Cassius has a lean and very hungry look. If he’s the VP TFG won’t see Day 2. Is Putin’s boy Flynn too screwy for, say, Koch, Leo & assorted campers at Bohemian Grove?

Wild card: who do red state ALEC legislators want as POTUS & VP? Flynn assures them they decide who the electors are & how they vote. What happens if they show up at Archives & Congress with lawyers, guns & “certified” winners? 147 MAGA MoC’s would walk them right by the magnetometers.

No excuses. DoJ, DoD & Cap cops must vet the troops, discharge wackos, brief all hands on domestic enemies & unlawful orders, & swear the oath again.

Prep for all contingencies.

7 June 1906 | A Polish woman, Zofia Piotrowska, was born in Tarnopol. A nurse.

In Auschwitz from 19 January 1943.
No. 29901
She perished in the camp on 24 February 1943.

Zofia was marked for an early death in the camp by facial cuts and bruises. There is a correlation between those people treated even more brutally as evidenced by facial injuries in the registration photos & death in about a month. What was different about them that caused this?

16 May 1944 | The main phase of the extermination of Hungarian Jews began at the German camp Auschwitz. Three trains arrived on that day: ca. 9,000 people were murdered in gas chambers. Until 9 July, 142 trains brought ca. 420,000 Hungarian Jews.

I read and forward posts by Auschwitz Museum “lest we forget”. That used to be a somewhat theoretical concern. The point being to avoid where we are now and where we will go unless good people resist. Speak out and vote at every level of government at every opportunity.
I have seen many accounts here of the Holocaust and managed to endure. But the enormity of this post really hit home today. We must never allow fascists or other authoritarians to take power beyond where they already are.

Here’s what I want to know: Why did Al Franken and Katie Hill have to resign but Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert are still in Congress?

AMilroy ,

@Strandjunker
While the question may be rhetorical I offer some input. Some voters keep electing Republicans who wrap themselves in the flag & are big on the Bible but actively support sexual assaulters & other odious criminals. Other voters see morals, ethics & rule of law as fundamental to good governance & elect Democrats who hold one another to high standards.

Just to reiterate, Trump wants to cut Social Security and Medicare — supposedly to address the debt — yet supports extending his tax cuts for the rich, adding $3.5 trillion to the deficit.

This isn't about the debt. It’s about doing the bidding of his wealthy donors.

AMilroy ,

@rbreich

What do SS, Medicare & the climate/diversity we evolved in have in common?
We need them to stay alive. And wealthy plutocrats want to ruin them.
We People have power to keep the life sustaining programs we paid into & planet we live on. Our leverage is our labor & purchases*.
No politician who accepts big $ is free to act for the People & the biodiversity keeping us alive.
Why do politicians largely ignore scientists’ desperate cries for rapid draw down of fossil fuels & restoration of ecosystems? Big $ from highly destructive oil, gas, coal, ag, mining, logging, land developing & their banks/insurers are why.
We can never out-bribe them.
*Our power is doing the opposite. Nonviolently striking at home & only buying essentials puts effective pressure on whomever sits as POTUS & Congress. The economy falters, non-extractive CEOs & shareholders tell politicians to deal. We hold out for strong SS, Medicare, codified human rights, rapidly drawing down fuels & restoring biomes.
