Preliminary concept for ELRIC AND THE SINKING CITY

Elric rests an arm on a demon statue that resembles a temple dog. With Stormbringer angled up, he delicately fingers the black runeblade. Beneath his signature black dragon helm, he casts eyes askew in a haughty glance. His yellow tunic bears the chaos star, eight arrows radiating out from a point. At the center is a stylized red eye. His legs armored in shiny plate painted yellow at the joints. His knee rests on the forelimb of the statue. At his feet lies the body of a dead warrior in bloodied chainmail.

    EYE OF THE NEEDLE (2015)

    Preliminary for a future painting. I was inspired by a trip to Southwest and saw many of rock formations as vantage points for imagining.

    A tall finger of rock, pitted and rust colored, rises against light blue sky cast with clouds tinted yellow. In an eyelet set near the top of the formation, a woman stands facing off panel left illuminated by the sun unseen. Her arms are thrown back and the cornflower blue cape she holds trails, lifted in the same line as her long chestnut hair, blown by the wind. She wears a long white sleeveless gown but boldly strides forward to rest her front leg—knee bent in extension—on a raised chunk of rock.
