May 17 is - The Vancouver Island marmot is the most endangered mammal in Canada. It is endemic to Vancouver Island where there are about 300 of them living in the alpine meadows.
A program of reproduction in captivity started over 20 yrs ago when there were less than 30 marmots in the wilderness. Learn more (& donate if you can) here: https://marmots.org/

The Vancouver Island marmot is endemic to Vancouver Island. It is listed as an endangered species: there is about 300 marmots in the mountains.

They are coming out of hibernation this month. If you see a Vancouver Island marmot while hiking here, please report your sightings to the Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Foundation.
