#Republicans introduce bill to #ban federal #DEI programs
The measure backed by several #GOPlawmakers would also halt federal #funding for agencies, #schools & other orgs that have DEI policies. Republican legislators introduced a bill that would end all federal #diversity, #equity & #inclusion programs, & end funding for government agencies, contractors, schools & other organizations that have their own DEI programs.
Romance Writers of America (RWA) is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, in part because of years of controversy surrounding race and inclusion. The trade association was founded by a Black woman in 1980 but became progressively whiter and less supportive of Black writers, awarded controversial books and in 2005, polled members on if romance should be defined as between one man and one woman. Despite all this, romance itself is thriving — it's the highest-earning fiction genre and sales are climbing. NBC took a look at what went wrong at the RWA. We want to know: What genres of book do you read (choose as many options as you like)? And if you're a writer, tell us about your work in the comments!

The poll results are a bit surprising to me. I always knew sci-fi was popular, but I wouldn't have predicted it to be first. My debut novel was #sci_fi (or, more specifically, #PoliSciFi) but I mostly read non-fiction.
Let’s stop the denials, the what-aboutism, and the gaslighting and get about the real business of dismantling racism and extending the love of Christ to everyone. @clayrivers

“It’s not just the beating me down that is hard,” one Black woman PhD candidate told a researcher. “It is the fact that it feels like I’m villainized and made out to be the problem for trying to advocate for myself.”
Women interviewed for the study report feeling isolated, abused and overworked. One said she had been tricked into handling a two- to four-person job entirely by herself.
Point out sexist or homophobic behaviour, say, and they’ll try to laugh it off. But racism? They’re outraged. Most of us will declare we’re anti-racist, but few of us are genuinely, actively anti-racist.

We all say we want our children to have the very best education, but is it really in their best interests to not tell them what we have done wrong, to not show them America’s feet of clay?

In Australia it is still not taught in our schools about the massacres that have occurred here. The argument that children were taken from their parents is continuously justified by the Murdoch media and the politicians of hate.

Warning: Rant
My husband and I are both left-handed.
There are approximately 708 million left-handers in the world.
Over 9% of people are left-handed.
Apparently these numbers do not meet the threshold for inclusion in product design.
My former Mr. Coffee coffeemaker had ambidextrous functionality. The flap over the water reservoir opened to the back, allowing someone to pour water easily from either side.
My new Mr. Coffee coffeemaker includes a design change. The flap over the water reservoir opens to the left, making it almost impossible for me pour water into it.
I just bought a new electric water kettle. The first time I filled it with water, I guessed at the fill limit because I saw no markings inside.
Then I read the instruction manual that referenced the maximum fill line. What? Turns out, I can only see the fill line markings if I fill the kettle while holding it in my right hand. 🤦♀️
If you are a product designer, you commit design malpractice if you fail to acknowledge the existence of left-handers.

After twenty-two years of searching and trying to make myself into what “I” thought everyone else, including God, wanted me to be, the Lord spoke to me in a manner that was uniquely his own.

At an event recently, colleagues kept making jokes about me being 'strict' because I kept the schedule on time, to the point it made me feel uncomfortable 🙃
I still interrupted speakers going over time and said no to questions that would reduce the breaks until the end 🤷♀️
