I went to see the swamp today. The summer weather has arrived,there is little water, although not completely dry. And these mushrooms were shining at me from a distance. They're tiny, actually,about 5 mm across. And they have eyelashes!
In the swamp, all I have to do is squat in one spot and spin around for fifteen minutes - I keep seeing new amazing, tiny things to photograph.

It's been ages since I've visited the hairy elephant! Just ducking in to share this charismatic little toothed mushroom, common name ! Notice how the stem is attached to the edge of the cap instead of the centre! Also this little mushroom is grown out of a Douglas Fir cone. What's not to love? They're so tiny they're easy to overlook. But if you slow down to start taking in the world of the small the world expands....

It's a toothed mushroom so instead of gills it has an array of white tooth-like structures hanging downward. The stem isn't in the middle of the mushroom umbrella like most commonly seen mushrooms but positioned on the side, kinda like a street lamp post of the kind that curve downward.... The background is moss. You realize how small the mushroom is because it's the same size as one stem of moss.
