I #read as #audiobook The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by James Daniel Brown. This 2014 biopic has recently come to attention because of the Clooney film. The #book is more accurate. I want to watch a rowing regatta now. This was my first Spotify audiobook. #reading@bookstodon https://amzn.to/3T92bTI
#Book 21: The Justice of Kings by Richard Swan -- The first in a #fantasy trilogy with an interesting take on politics and religion. Overall, the #audiobook was only okay for me, but others have loved it.
#Book 20: THE BISHOP AND THE BUTTERFLY by Michael Wolraich -- An engaging and easy to read #nonfiction account of how the murder of Vivian Gordon ultimately led to the fall of Tammany Hall.
Head on over to https://www.twitch.tv/chilliteracy to hear Lucy read this evening's short story, 'Prelude' by Katherine Mansfield! We've been really enjoying Mansfield's work and expect this to be another excellent story. See you there! @bookstodon
#Book 19: Across so Many Seas by Ruth Behar -- I can't recommend enough this beautifully written story about four Sephardic Jewish girls who live in different time periods & different countries. A difficult decision: whether to read in print or in audio; each has its benefits.
Five stars: Coconut Drop Dead by Olivia Matthews and Janina Edwards (Narrator) (2023) is the third book in the Spice Isles Bakery mystery series. Lyndsay Murray and her family are taking their food truck to the annual Caribbean American Heritage Festival. They've attended for years, but this is their first time as vendors.
#Book 15: The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett -- what a fun #fantasy / #mystery with an eccentric investigator who reminds us of Holmes or perhaps Poirot. Super duper #audiobook. Thanks to prhaudio for the review copy
This evening, Lucy's returning to the works of Katherine Mansfield! If you would kindly bring yourselves over to https://www.twitch.tv/chilliteracy and make yourselves comfortable, we promise you a lovely, cosy evening! @bookstodon
#Book 13: After Annie by by Anna Quindlen -- an emotionally strong and authentic feeling look at a family in mourning. Thanks to the publishers for the review copy.
#Book 12: An Education in Malice by S. T. Gibson: A dark, sexy #fantasy that suffered from some copyediting issues. Thanks to Hachette Audio for the review copy.
#Book 11: Maude Horton's Glorious Revenge by Lizzie Pook. I liked the period details, but it was only an okay read for me. Thanks to the publishers for the review copy.
Five stars: The Sign of Four Spirits by Vicki Delany and Kim Hicks (Narrator) is the ninth book in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop mystery series. Gemma Doyle listens through a closed door to a murder during a seance. She knows it can only be one of the people in attendance but figuring out which one is going to take a lot of work.
#Book 8: Unsinkable by Jenni L. Walsh -- a dual-time-line novel about two women connected in an unusual way. I especially like the chapters about the real-life Violet Jessop, who truly had luck on her side.
Thanks to the publisher for the #audiobook review copy.
