"Three in four (76%) European travelers are adapting their behaviour to the crisis, according to a new survey by the European Travel Commission (ETC) shared exclusively with the Guardian.

In a sign that extreme weather is weighing on the minds of travellers and industry professionals."

@Delphi

Yeah, same here.
I'm switching to more local trips. Would be nice if the US had better train connections. But also if you travel by car with a few friends, that makes for lower travel emissions per person. (Also hunting for fossils is a pretty low-emissions activity).

@CelloMomOnCars Right now I'm not going anywhere & just reliving all the trips I've made in the past. The roads are crazy, the trains expensive & unreliable and ferries off my island unaffordable! There's lots of fossil hunting here https://ukfossils.co.uk/category/isle-of-wight/

"‘Recipe for disaster’: Venice entry fee sparks confusion and protest on day one" by Angela Giuffrida

"On the first day of what the mayor of Venice has hailed as a bold experiment in reducing over-tourism, day-trippers faced a €5 (£4.30) charge, which kicked in at 8.30am on Thursday and will apply on 29 peak days until 14 July as part of a trial.

The scheme is intended to help the city better manage the millions of tourists that visit every year, even if it only applies to those coming just for the day – and even if, as critics argue, the relatively low cost is unlikely to prove a deterrent."

"Most of the day-trippers arriving at Santa Lucia came prepared with a QR code proving they had paid the toll, but there was still confusion among people with hotel bookings who were unaware they still had to go through the process of confirming their exemption online."

Why do so many links towards the Guardian?
From my extremely personal point of view, Venezia is too beautiful to let all those idiots in, desecrating the city. My suggestion would be a dress code and a ban on selfies. Now that would give me some room to love the most beautiful place on earth.
Happy to pay Lit. 18.000 for espresso served by a gentleman as I did 40 years ago. If you don't follow, visit Disney.

Are the emissions created for leisure travel ethical?

Tourism accounts for 8-10% of global emissions. The CO2 emissions from tourism activities will last in the atmosphere for 300 to 1,000 years.

Until such time as we have decarbonised the entire supply chain are these emissions ethical?

@peterdutoit I had to check, bc I found "8-10%" to be high.

But it is apparently the correct order of magnitude 😭. That includes food, transport, infrastructure... and it is for the wealthier.

The have had enough of mass

It is about time to stop the ecological abuse of these amazingly beautiful islands. We have had enough of being amongst the poorest regions in Spain. It is time to shift to an economic model that respects planetary and insular limits and brings wellbeing to the people.

🎙 Anita Buhin was invited by the Transformative Podcast (RECET) to talk about so-called ('seagulls') in socialist and various economic, cultural and social aspects of this phenomenon, typical for the broader region and the development of mass .

The galebovi were local young men who engaged in sexual and romantic relationships with foreign tourists.
