Today in Labor History June 14, 1905: The crew of the Russian battleship Potemkin mutinied after sailors were shot for complaining about being served maggot-ridden meat. Civilians soon joined the mutineers in revolutionary actions that included the burning of granaries, quays and ships in harbor. The insurrection was part of the 1905 Russian Revolution in which the first soviets were formed. The mutiny was the basis for the seminal film by Sergei Eisenstein, with music scored by Dmitri Shostakovich.

There is an interesting #Shostakovich album coming out tomorrow. I have more Shostakovich albums than I know what to do with, but I am interested in hearing more of the Carducci String Quartet (elsewhere simply titled, Carducci Quartet). It is his String Quartets Nos. 9 & 15

Yesterday I discovered Stage+ from Deutsche Grammophon. It's pretty great.

I watched:

#HilaryHahn with the Berliner Philharmoniker brilliantly perform #Shostakovich at Suntory Hall in 2000

#LisaBatiashvili and #GautierCapuçon perform #Brahms just last month

and #VíkingurÓlafsson perform #Bach's Goldberg Variations in Seoul in 2023

I think I just found my new self-care regiment. Wish it were less than $15 + tax. It's DG so no surprise, but any more and I wouldn't do it.
