At issue for #SCOTUS was whether #SC’s new map, which was created by the #GOP-led state legislature & moved #BlackVoters from one district to another, was permitted to bolster a #Republican majority or was an #unconstitutional effort to divvy up voters by #race. The 6-3 #conservative majority reversed the lower court finding that the map was an unconstitutional #RacialGerrymander but gave #Black voters a chance to continue the case using a different argument. #law #WhiteSupremacy #gerrymandering

A ruled Thurs that time had run out to draw a new congressional district in & said the state could use its existing map even though it had earlier determined that map was unconstitutional.

    The panel of 3 judges last year concluded that ’s -led “exiled” 30k from the district to make it safer for a incumbent, Rep .
    appealed, & both sides asked to expedite the case to ensure a final ruling was in place well ahead of season. The justices heard arguments in October but have yet to rule.

    The word “trounce” is being used by the in describing ’s victory, but 40% of ’s voters preferred which in land ain’t exactly a glowing endorsement

    Will these disgruntled voters show up for in November? What does that presage for Independent voters?
