Happy New Year all you tooters and folk! I've decided to start a new photo thread for the New Year, even though I'm part way through a roll, and nowhere near up to date (early November, in fact). An ornate wooden structure stands at the end of a terrace. Banisters can be seen on the lower right, suggesting steps going down to a lower level. Through the window at the far end part of the castle wall is visible and beyond it a white house in some woodland. Portrait format photo in black and white.

    Bottom right is a terrace with a wooden balustrade. Two white chained bears stand on plinths in the balustrade, each holding a trimmed piece of wood; together they were the symbol of Robert Dudley, who owned the Castle and wanted to marry Elizabeth 1st. Between the bears, the Castle gatehouse can be seen. Black and white photo.

    Flood behind the Castle. This is on the site of the Great Mere, a defensive feature destroyed by Parliament after the Civil War.

    Flood behind the Castle, next day. More rain, higher water, this part wasn't flooded the previous day.

    Ruined castle against the horizon, reflected in the water, but with less detail as the water is not still (I think it was raining slightly). Grass at the bottom left with some bunches of reeds, a small spit of grass from mid right, otherwise most of the bottom half is water. Black and white photo.

    What a difference a day makes! Flooded fence line, successive days.

    Fence line in a flooded field. Two strands of barbed wire are visible nearby, but soon disappear under the water. All the tufted reeds have gone. The tree line towards the horizon is where the brook normally runs. Black and white photo.

    Low bridge... built for a short-cut railway line, now defunct and used as "The Greenway" for walkers, cyclists and riders.

    A brick bridge with a "Low Bridge" sign on it, indicating the height at centre is 4.3m or 14 feet 3 inches. The right hand side of the bridge support is lit by the low sun, which can be seen just above the horizon behind a tree at the left side of the opening. The single track road curves round to the right through the bridge, then disappears left towards another tree. Black and white photo.

    Black and white image shows a bench, facing away, under a tree. Behind to its right is a building with lights on it what is clearly early twilight (this is the Queen and Castle pub/restaurant). Behind the bench to the left is a lit street lamp, and a main road curving up the hill. On roughly the left hand third a vertical light leak is reminiscent of the transporter beams from sci-fi movies!
