why did out government suspend aid before the allegations had been investigated?
The source of the allegations is notoriously unreliable. 🤔 Actually, "unreliable" is too charitable.

What influenced our government?

Australia has delusions of power, which it maintains by association with the US. Before that, we were tied to Britain.

To paraphrase Donald Horne; Australia is a lucky country, run by mediocrities. I doubt we'll ever have a government with the integrity to stand up for principles.

The best I can hope for is a severing of ties with Israel. Perhaps declaring Zionism a terrorist ideology. Maybe even recognition of Palestinians as people, if not of Palestine as a state.
