We have found the limits of the digital world. There is still a need for human beings. HMRC should acknowledge the fact https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/05/15/we-have-found-the-limits-of-the-digital-world-there-is-still-a-need-for-human-beings-hmrc-should-acknowledge-the-fact/ HMRC is failing the public. It’s doing so by choice. It’s refusing to talk to people who want help. It’s trying to make them use digital services instead, and they refuse to do that. Maybe, just maybe, what HMRC has actually discovered is that there is a role for human beings after all.

@RichardJMurphy I had a very threatening letter from implying I needed to pay tax on something I knew I didn't as it was linked to a trust. Letter said I needed to adjust my previous years self assessment or else would get huge fines (but I discovered you can't do that if there is no tax to pay). Only in the very last sentence did it say ' ignore this letter if you know you do not have to pay tax on this income'. I scoured the website but it's an old trust clearly not in their system so I tried to phone. Waited over an hour and got cut off. Found an email address to contact about trust queries..emailed and got an automatic reply saying this email address will not reply to messages and it directed me to the webpage which didn't tell you what to do about old trusts. Gave up... I have the original trust documents but no way am I sending them to get lost by HMRC...and don't even get me started on HMRC voice recognition system...sigh..
