I always forget about this clematis, particularly because it isn’t really a vine. It sends up sort of tipsy stalks and then suddenly there’s a flower. Probably a type of Clematis integrifola.

Originally thought this might be a peony when it first broke through, but that’s no peony. It certainly looks cool whatever it is. It kind of reminds me of a giant asparagus or a cross of something with an artichoke.

    Chaos Gardening Update:

    Little area had a bunch of de-lawning sod covered by stone slabs and rocks for… uh, a while. Took pots off it on last Friday, pulled out stone, and dug up soil worms etc made of the sod. Added some new soil and decanted an unknown number of young dahlias, one peony, and some mystery seedlings. There’s something under the crossed green supports. No idea what but was worried about squirrels. Stuff in back was already there. Fern for contrast.
