I saw people on Lemmy who were fairly convinced that the plane had come from Iran, and then was flying out of Belgorod, which makes it unlikely that it was carrying prisoners for an exchange in Belgorod.

I'm not saying it's true; I have no idea and this is just comments on a forum, but my impression had been that it was likely that the whole prisoners thing was never true in any respect.
