Germany’s Scholz pressed by own coalition to provide long-range missiles for Ukraine ( www.euractiv.com )

While France and Britain have passed on their own long-range SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine, Chancellor Scholz (SPD, S&D) has mystified allies with his persistent reluctance to deliver equivalent German Taurus missiles.

Long-range weapons to strike behind enemy lines are among the most urgently needed weapons, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised at the Munich Security Conference (MSC) last weekend.

Hoping for that russian payout when this is all over like his traitor predecessor Schröder.

MrMakabar ,

The decision of the Bundestag is not binding for the government. However some other parts of the decision:

  • officially aknowledging that Germany made a mistake in not using significantly more force when Russia invaded Georgia in 2008 and Ukraine in 2014
  • Ukraine has to win the war, which is very different language to Russia has to loose
  • using spelling of Ukranian locations in German in offical documents, rather then the still normal Russian spelling(okay not that important)
  • also I read a lot about it could mean Himars missiles instead of Taurus. The passage with the "long range weapons" thanks France and the UK for supplying SCALP, so it is basically as clear as it gets without saying Taurus.

Ukraine has used the cruise missiles provided by the British and French to drectly strike and destroy ships, a sub, and command posts. They have made a huge difference and Germany providing even more would continue to be a massive help to Ukraine.

Taurus could actually be used against the Kerch bridge with its range and warhead.
