Tbf if you're drawing exclusively/primarily pixel art I think libresprite is better - because it is more focused on it/made specifically for it.
Krita is an all-can-do program more a-kin to photoshop (but krita is better imo), it can do pixel art too, but it has a lot of other options, bells and whistles because it was made for digital art as a whole.
You're not getting a lot of responses so I figured I'd offer the little that I can.
I have not used Krita for pixel art, moreso regular digital painting, and I came from using Photoshop. Once I got used to the different control scheme, I enjoyed it quit e about more for digital painting than Photoshop. It's free and the learning curve isn't that steep so it's worth a shot I think
Peach's face is looking weird, my guess is that's mostly from the 3 dots making her nose. Her eyes could also have 1 extra pixel of height and the middle of the pupil could use one extra pixel in length, make it slightly "rounder"
Yeah, only 1 extra pixel in height looked off. Added a second and I think it looks slightly better. Tried the extra width on the pupil, but that went much worse than I expected.
they are not artists in my book
they are dr frankenstein, using something and stitching together something that already exist with little merit of their own
I like how you increasingly embrace asymmetry. It very much helps; I hope you'll find it helpful to introduce some to facial features as well, perhaps the symmetrical mouth ▀▄▀▀▄▀ could be shifted to a side to allow for ▀▄▀▄▀ or even ▄▄▀▄▀, depending on what expression you are trying to convey. Either that, or you can experiment with other shapes like ▀▄▀█▄▀ for more relaxed rather than pouting lips. I think mildly emulating a head tilt in one or more of the 3D axes, as the "realistic" 3D model does (perhaps shifting some eyebrow or nose details up/down "half" a pixel on one side), would also help with striking a natural pose much like the 2D concept art. The body position and clothes of the right pixel art are great, it shows that there are definitely enough pixels to add hands (if you wish) and finally a less static-looking head.
