Complicity in genocide is not confined to the Israeli right. Members of the liberal organization that spearheaded the anti-Netanyahu protests last year are now blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza.

@mondoweiss @palestine @israel It is OK, bewcause Netanyahu is now implementing the no-state (final) solution to the 'Palestinian Problem'

@mondoweiss @palestine @israel And the kibbutz system was (allegedly) founded on the principle of socialism!

@rmblaber1956 @mondoweiss @palestine @israel

Early Zionism was heavily influenced by socialist and anarchist ideas...

it's yet another "socialist" experiment gone wrong as soon as a nationalist or ethno-racialist element infects and then co-opts the project.

@fedwards9965 @rmblaber1956 @mondoweiss @palestine @israel

it has nothing to do with socialism and everything to do with Israeli society being racist whether left or right

@radiofreearabia @mondoweiss @palestine @israel

I don't really know how to respond to that, because it's not what I'm talking about.

I was replying to @rmblaber1956 's post on "kibbutz" being "founded on the principle of socialism."

I'm talking about the ideological underpinnings that were subverted for the ethno-nationalist state of Israel.

Early Zionism predates Israel by 70+ years, with many wanting nothing to do with Palestine.

These facts, while true, mean nothing on the ground today

@fedwards9965 @rmblaber1956 @mondoweiss @palestine @israel Zionism involves creating a state. What part about making an ethnostate is anarchist?

and? what did I say that contradicts those headlines?

Heidentweet ,
@Heidentweet@todon.eu avatar

@fedwards9965 @rmblaber1956 @mondoweiss @palestine @israel These headlines contradict: "Early Zionism was heavily influenced by socialist and anarchist ideas..." Zionism was a nationalist, colonial project from the start. They may have had communal living in a kibbutz, but that doesn't make this socialist or anarchist when the communal living was (is) part of a racist land stealing, colonizer project.

@Heidentweet @rmblaber1956 @mondoweiss @palestine @israel

IN. FLU. ENCED

"transitive. To exert influence upon, to affect by influence." (OED)

The term "influenced" means having an effect on the character, development, or behaviour of someone or something. When used in a context where it doesn't refer to being a singular cause, it implies that the effect is part of a broader set of factors contributing to an outcome.

rmblaber1956 ,
@rmblaber1956@mastodon.social avatar

@fedwards9965 @mondoweiss @palestine @israel Can't you see that Zionism is intrinsically racist? By definition, therefore, it cannot be "socialist", which is committed to social justice, no matter how deluded the early, or later, Zionists may have been about their ideology & its implications.

fedwards9965 ,
@fedwards9965@mastodon.online avatar

@rmblaber1956 @mondoweiss @palestine @israel

I don't believe it was intrinsically "racist"...

I don't think you're giving any weight whatsoever to the Jewish situation in Europe that sparked the need they felt to have somewhere they could feel safe

When you are considered "other" by, literally, everyone then wanting a safe haven FOR themselves becomes understandable

That doesn't excuse how the project became subverted and what it eventually became

it IS possible to reconcile these facts

@radiofreearabia@mastodon.social avatar

@rmblaber1956 @mondoweiss @palestine @israel

it is easy since they don't see Palestinians as humans
