Nuclear Energy

PlutoniumAcid , in Leaders commit to 'unlock potential' of nuclear energy at landmark summit
@PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world avatar

Notably absent is Germany, with their immense consumption of coal 😮‍💨

Taniwha420 , in Germany aims to build fusion power plant

"In 2040."

I'm not even sure I'm a cynic for rolling my eyes at another, "only ten years away," press release.

LEDZeppelin , in Simultaneously insignificant and significant

Just like wind mills in Texas - simultaneously they are useless and they are the sole reason Texas grid goes tits up every winter

Venator , in Simultaneously insignificant and significant

6% suddenly seems quite important when it's the only power being generated at that point in time... Could always take the South African approach and have scheduled rolling blackouts if demand gets too high in future though... 😜

mholiv , in Green Party of Canada currently voting on Nuclear Policies

Let’s hope they vote pro nuclear. We can handle radioactive waste. We can’t handle the climate change resulting from CO2 producing power sources.

arnowi , in Belgium launches project to develop metal smelter
@arnowi@mas.to avatar

@Emil
Both sad and happy news. On the one hand, it's to reduce nuclear waste as this will recycle more (stainless) steel that would otherwise end up with the nuclear waste. On the other hand it's needed because of all those unnecessarily decommissioned nuclear powerstations 🙁

@Emil @collectifission Higher Carbon prices help even more.

Emil OP Mod , in French regulatory review of Newcleo SMR progresses
@Emil@feddit.nl avatar

Really impressive that their design can be transported as a 200 MWe module. That truly brings the SMR promise closer!

kwomp2 , in Niger revokes mining permit for Imouraren project

Now I read a lot of media output of a coorporation. This has almost no informational value if not put into perspective/contextualized

breadsmasher , in Niger revokes mining permit for Imouraren project
@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

this country name always give me a “wtf doubletake” when just skimming headlines

cm0002 , in US Senate passes legislation to speed nuclear deployment

A shockingly high amount of Rs voted for this...what's the catch?

verity_kindle , in Sanmen-3 / At China’s First CAP1000 Nuclear Plant, Revolutionary Containment Takes Shape
@verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works avatar

So the passive cooling system design was ripped off from Westinghouse and the author just comes out and says it? That's refreshing.

collectifission , in Preparatory activities begin at Imouraren
@collectifission@greennuclear.online avatar

@Emil Interesting that Niger is letting the French back in. I wonder what is happening here.

Krusty , in Grossi suggests Zaporizhzhia will not be restarted during conflict
@Krusty@feddit.it avatar

That's a big problem with muclear energy

collectifission ,
@collectifission@greennuclear.online avatar

@Krusty @Emil Is it not a problem with war areas in general?

Krusty ,
@Krusty@feddit.it avatar

Yes of course

collectifission , in Inaugural ISL tests completed at third Canadian uranium deposit
@collectifission@greennuclear.online avatar

@Emil Currently 57% of all uranium globally is retrieved using ISL. This will further raise the number, further decreasing the footprint of uranium mining.
