Any way you look at this, what this guy did strictly fits the definition of domestic terrorism as defined by the Patriot Act. If anything is done about it is doubtful but that remains to be seen.

alliswell33 ,

The Biden admin was already in a tough spot with voters before they supported Israel. Now they have sealed the deal and have no chance of winning. We will slip farther into fascism because of genocide Joe.

HikingVet ,

What exactly was this representative looking for? What are they going to bring to the table that merits the White House bringing them in to consult on the Middle East? Huffpost laid out what their grievance was, and it seems like it's just because they are the leader of the House of Representatives in Michigan.

Lmao. Arab and a leader in the Michigan republican party? That has leopard ate my face material written all over it.

HikingVet ,

He is listed as a Democrat.

Oops. My bad. I saw someone posted "leader of the House of Representatives" and at the quick glance I did thought it said "House Republicans"

dugmeup ,

What the hell do the local groups want? It's not like they are a federal authority or group.
Bring it up with the Michigan leadership.

... state Rep. Abraham Aiyash (D) said that he has received “ZERO correspondence” since Oct. 7 from the White House, the Democratic National Committee or the Michigan Democratic Party leadership about the community’s concerns regarding U.S. involvement in the “ongoing genocide unfolding in Gaza.”

Why would the White House reach out to someone in Michigan rather than someone say in Gaza or somewhere in the middle east?

“I highlight this for several reasons: Michigan has a significant Arab and Muslim community. Michigan is a critical state this November,” he continued in another post. “I am the highest ranking Arab and Muslim state elected in Michigan, and the lack of outreach only suggests there isn’t a legitimate concern or respect for our communities here in Michigan (and broadly across the US).”

So he is making a political threat. Isn't that by definition terrorism?

dvoraqs ,

Terrorism includes violence or threat of violence directed at civilians

philo ,
@philo@lemmy.zip avatar

Nope, read the definition closely.

girlfreddy ,
@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

Okay. So where do you read this guy has threatened to use violence to create fear?

the calculated use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective. Source

"I am the highest ranking Arab and Muslim in Michigan" is definitely more funny than they probably intended it to be.

gAlienLifeform ,
@gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, sure, it's so funny to be Muslim in Michigan, everybody knows there are no Muslims in the midwest, what's that silly guy doing there? /s
