Stellantis recalls nearly 1.2M vehicles to fix software glitch that disables rear camera ( www.cbc.ca )

Stellantis is recalling nearly 1.2 million vehicles in the U.S. and Canada to fix a software glitch that can disable the rear view cameras.

The recall covers Jeep Compass, Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs from the 2022 and 2023 model years.

Also included are Ram ProMaster vans from 2022 and 2023, as well as the Ram 3500 chassis cabs and Ram 1500 and 2500 pickups from 2022. Also covered are 2021 through 2023 Chrysler Pacifica minivans and Jeep Grand Cherokee L SUVs, and 2021 and 2022 Dodge Durango SUVs.

At least it’s only a software glitch. They can fix this OTA rather than dragging everyone into dealers. Right?

Oh man, good thing they're fixing this. The camera being disabled means that there was absolutely zero way to reverse in a safe manner. Such a critical component of vehicles should absolutely get addressed as soon as possible! If you're parked in a garage, BE SAFE PEOPLE! Reversing is DANGEROUS! More so if you don't have a camera!

You're aware that by law most cars after like 2015 2018 have to have a backup camera in the US right?

If it is broken they are literally breaking the law by not fixing it.

Yes, you can have your mirrors and rearview but the camera removes your blindspots that those miss (you know things like a small child that is behind your vehicle). It's a critical safety feature that is broken and needs to be fixed.

edit: NHTSA required it in 2018 not 2015, Canada probably has similar laws on the books too

Minor correction. I think it was 2018.

That's correct, NHTSA required it federally on May 1st 2018. I may have mixed up some local laws or regulations that happened in 2015 (when I bought my last car they mentioned that all their cars were required to have backup cameras)
