Are Epson Ecotank printer/scanners Linux-friendly

There are packages and source code on their homepage and in the Ubuntu repo. I need basic print and basic scan to work out of the box on any OS including Linux, more or less. I can install drivers, but I have a bad feeling when proprietary drivers are required. Often vendors don't maintain them very well. (Contrary to popular...
