Iran said that its retaliation for Israel's April 1 attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus would be "deemed concluded," while Biden reportedly told Netanyahu that the U.S. would not back an Israeli counterattack.
@faab64@mondoweiss That he thinks he might fucking LOSE that war without US Backing. If Biden didn't say so explicitly then the only thing that's keeping him from retaliating is the reaction time of the organism called IDF, which I'd think is faster than 8 hours.
@faab64@mondoweiss they go whining to the UN after they shoot down nearly every missile of hundreds, after taking purely superficial damage and Iran is saying "swing. I dare you" they are chickening out, that's all it can be. like the bully refusing to throw a punch while the schoolyard watches. the hegemony of the west has been called a bluff, Iran has retaliated and shown Bibi to be a coward
@faab64@mondoweiss the entirety of Western hegemony shatters once, solidly. the bully cannot stand to be stood up to, this is not how hegemony works. violence is all that they can promise to anybody
@faab64@mondoweiss this is honestly a huge win if Israel just falters to respond right now and just lets this massive attack off without another shot. They were touching the lion's tail by bombing a fucking embassy, they asked for this, to be punched in the gut. and they have received their punch.
@starwall
Well I guess we have different understanding of Israel.
Not in a million years will Fascists in Israeli military and government ranks accept such humiliating defeat.
They can cry victimhood and go to UN to get a resolution with the help of #GenocideJoe and the rest of the hypocrites of NATO, and possibly Russia and China might decide not to vote, like they did with Yemen. But even without that, Israel will escalate it's "retaliation" (the word never used for Iran attacking israel) against Lebanon, Syria and Iraq with #GenocideJoe acting as the passive defender of Israel at best, or possibly getting involved directly in the conflict.
Remember US was supposed to leave Iraq and Syria soon, if you believe that they didn't lie to public and Iraqi government of course. @mondoweiss
@starwall
The damages are not superficial, at least not according to videos I have seen , those long range missiles have 50pkg of explosives and hit their targets at Mach 5 or more. The damages must be significant and shocking.
Wasn't it for Pentagon support, it would have been 10 times worse @mondoweiss
@faab64@mondoweiss and maybe it ought to have been, 10 times worse. it's as they put it at the Pentagon, this was a "massive deterrence failure" indeed it was, Israel flagrantly disobeyed international law, this is in fact a massive deterrence failure, one that is a question of national sovereignty! Iran was straight up justified, warned everybody for days they were about to do it too. They're in the right, and now the ball is in Israel's court they're afraid.
@faab64@mondoweiss This is what 'We're Even' looks like, do they want to find out what life and death looks like, without full US support? Does the US even have the war industry for that, the political capital for a draft, for that? Doubt it.
@starwall
If US didn't interfere, Israel would have had a much much worse problem to deal with.
US destroyed close to 70% of the drones and missiles and the 30% that reached Israel created such damage that even Russian and independent military analysts are surprised with. @mondoweiss
@faab64@mondoweiss they can rage against the leash all they like. if the US has threatened a pulling of support then their hands are tied. The US is the dominant force in this "partnership". Zionism is their own pet project, it has been so for decades and decades.
@starwall
The video showing Iranian missile dodging an Israeli air defense then shooting out bomblets before it hits the target is being discussed by independent and pro Russian military analysts on telegram.
This is the first time such ICBM have been seen in action against the most advanced air defense system in the world.
This means a lot to US as well because Iran has 100s of these missiles spread across 40+ underground sites all over Iran. @mondoweiss
@faab64@mondoweiss If Article 51 means anything then the United Nations will determine yet one more embarrassment on to Israel, and so the better for all the world for it. I hope the West pulls its punch in fear
@starwall
I'm really afraid that UNSC will pass a watered down version of Israeli demands enough for them and their backers to justify a "retaliation" by Israel.
I really really really hoped that 9/11 would be a wake up call for people in the west to reexamine their colossal failure in the region, their unconditional support of Israel and monstrous regimes like KSA and UAE, but instead Bush pushed the pre planned scenario by "Americans for new century" neocons and make things much worse.
Followed by disgusting double standard of Obama and destruction of the strongest secular Arab country, Libya , it paved the way for Netanyahu to flourish and gain power once Trump and his Christian Taliban VP came to power.
The past few years of Biden have been one embarrassment after another. A strong Zionist (his own words), he stood by and let Fascist coalition of Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir humiliate, kill, torture and maim Palestinians over and over without a single sign of opposition.
October 7 just killed the last remaining hope for anything positive coming out of this. And the ongoing genocide and shameles compliance and silence of the west as well as majority of Arab nations have made a peaceful end to this conflict almost impossible.
I fear that it just going to get worse.
Trump is going to win the election in November and the world just forgets about Palestinians once again and focus on the clown in the white house instead. @mondoweiss
