My contribution to the discussion is that the Greek phrase for "(in) my ass", if said in a hasty/hillbilly way, sounds pretty similar to Gollum. Might even call in to question the true nationality of this game's visionary inventor.
The game is to try and pretend you don’t have a finger up your ass (if the gollum has their finger up your ass). Then everyone takes turns looking around and figuring out who actually has a finger up their ass, so they call the bluff of the person who is pretending to not have a finger up their ass.
If you guess correctly, you get to be the gollum whom is immune to having a finger up their ass.
