Oh Linux, you scamp! You got me again!

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2068738

(The joke here is that the previous Linux kernel update had a bug in it that caused my screen to go blank upon booting up. This, of course, sent me into a panic for several hours, but eventually, with guidance from some of you good people, I managed to roll back to an even more previous kernel and told Linux to wait for the next one before updating.

And now, weeks later, it updated and the bug was still there!)
😶 😨 😅 😆 🤣 😭 😢

Oh for fuck's sake, Ubuntu!
Rolled back again, I assume?

There does seem to be a workaround available, but seriously, this should be an avoidable issue.

I made a key for an internal reference map, an act which feels simultaneously elderly (I kept forgetting which species I'd assigned purple to) and indulgent (it's just for meeeee). 😅

    Oh no!
Hopefully the Mint forums can help?

(And yeah, Linux definitely requires reboots. That myth stems from the fact that /technically/ there are ways to keep a server up through updates, but it's hard and a reboot is much simpler for desktop systems.)

looks like others are having the same experience, potentially related to graphics drivers. The thread here has some suggestions for rolling back, and seems to be working towards a solution maybe?

the joy and curse of Linux - it's a community effort to solve any problems. Hopefully you can roll back for now?

I'm glad you got it working! (And yes, you're saying it all correctly.)

Usually kernel updates are fine, but clearly something went wrong here. There are ways to freeze certain packages so they never update, though I don't know how off hand. Maybe someone else can say, or I can look it up later.

Good point! Assuming you're still using Mint, install "Gnome Web"
It uses WebKit, so it should be a pretty good approximation. Feature parity may not be exact, but it should render close to the same I think?

Edit: it may be listed as Epiphany instead?

@mswhitemage picked up this weird d6 in a "mug of random dice" once. It's numbered 0,1,1,1,2,3 and we haven't been able to find reference to it anywhere.

Best we can figure (based on a similar one that goes 1,1,1,2,2,FATE in a Terminator miniatures game) it might be a wargame thing to determine activations in a round?

As someone who has used AutoCAD to design a character sheet, have you considered trying to use a program that is in no way meant for it? 😁

#DnD magic-users cast a spell & forget it. Folks like to point at this and say that makes D&D's magic Vancian.

This bugs me for many reasons I don't care to enumerate. I encourage you to read some Jack Vance if want to know more. It's all in books.

While this cast and forget quality is a delightful constraint in Vance's fiction, it's an awkward trope in D&D's pastiche. The latter does not feel like the former. So I'd like to humbly propose a new term for D&D's version: Regexian.

    Hear me out!

This feels like something that would fit well thematically in the Cryptomancer rpg.

I'm sure the error is fixable, but I have no idea how. You could post on the Mint forums maybe? They're generally pretty helpful there, I understand.

Oof. Yeah, looks like it's a kernel issue, so probably has people working to solve it. And there does appear to be solutions, but yeah, maybe skip this one and jump to the next release when it comes out.
