Facebook is (still) full of fake photographs of "disabled veterans" sitting on the curb that say "Why don't photos like this ever trend?"

But it's not a photo of real people. This strikes me as disrespectful, fraudulent, stolen valor stuff. Never mind the endless whitewashing of the US Military by playing on our valid desire to take care of the people harmed by it.

You can report images as "AI generated" but it doesn't do anything. (I suspect it'd be used to make the images less detectable.)

You may enjoy (or have already read) the fiction short story “Liking What You See: A Documentary" by Ted Chiang.
I found it fascinating and horrifying, mostly because it depicts advertising practices that corporations would TOTALLY do today if they had the tech.

“… The novelette examines the cultural effects of a noninvasive medical procedure that induces a visual agnosia toward physical beauty….”

If I were rich enough I’d

  1. Buy google adsense a huge buy
  2. target ads at myself: audience of one
  3. make ads transparent zero width images
  4. Experience peace at last.

Why can’t they sell a “no ads” global package? I have blockers on most of my computers and phones but now and then I still see ads and I can’t deal with it. I know I can pay more than these people with their little before and after images of gross skin— and the ads for games that don’t exist and gambling ads.

@futurebird Peace at last!

I’ve been having a great experience with Kagi.com so far (it’s only been two weeks). Costs money, no ads, great search results.
