@nick I don't know. I can understand both sides.

Users searching for solutions of their problems, stumbling upon a new functionality and test it out without doing what it does.

Developers specifying what it does and therefore expect people would know what they are doing.

Anyway a compromise got merged to make it more difficult for users to accidentally mess up. Which is probably good. But I don't think you need to handhold users all the time...

Wenn Leute mich fragen, warum ich oft über auf dem Desktop schimpfe: weil der Aufwand verglichen mit Windows im Alltag höher ist. Wieder ein Beispiel:

Gnome Erweiterung AppIndicator: funktioniert

Extension Manager: "da gibt's ein Update!"

Ich: "klar, mach mal."

Extension Manager: ERROR

Gnome Erweiterung AppIndicator: funktioniert nicht mehr

Ja, wahrscheinlich ist es nix Wildes, und vielleicht dauert's nur 10 Minuten das zu fixen, aber ich muss mich jetzt halt drum kümmern :-/

@claudius Wieso würde man Gnome nehmen, wenn man so dringend App-Indikatoren will?

Das ist halt so als würde man eine UI-Modifikation für den Desktop von Dritten auf Windows installieren, die potentiell auf einer anderen Version entwickelt wird und im Folge eines manuellen Updates bricht.

Kenne niemanden, der so etwas unter Windows tun würde. Klingt wie ein sehr schiefer Vergleich...

@claudius Du nimmst halt einfach KDE, Xfce, Mate etc. (völlig egal eigentlich was - nur nicht Gnome) und dein Problem ist gelöst.

Wenn du aber unbedingt Gnome willst, wartest du einfach auf das nächste Update der Extension und hälst bis dahin die Füße still. Niemand erwartet, dass du als Nutzer das Problem löst.

@claudius Ich verstehe schon, was das Problem sein soll. Nur existiert dieser Papercut ja per Default nicht auf Gnome. Das ist mein Punkt.

Wenn du jetzt eine Distribution hättest, die das standardmäßig einbaut und dann bricht es - faire Kritik. Aber sonst hinkt der Vergleich doch gewaltig.

@claudius Natürlich kannst du dich beschweren. Aber wo ist hier Linux das Problem?

Die richtige Addresse ist die Anwendung bzw. dessen Repository. Denn die Anwendung ist nicht kompatibel mit deinem System. Oder beschwerst du dich bei Microsoft, wenn OBS nicht mehr richtig funktioniert?

@claudius Das würde ich tatsächlich Canonical ankreiden zu früh auf Wayland zu wechseln, ohne ausreichend zu testen.

Zumindest ist es jetzt behoben.
