As I worked my way through the Bregenz nuns' manuscripts, I came upon this delightful 15th-century fellow in a (vernacular) lectionary (front section of OENB 2837)

A red-ink initial "I" with knobs in its middle to make it fancy; to the right the text "In illo tempore" (with those standard Latin abbreviations) and below that the bits of german translation that was why this lectionary was copied -- so the nuns could understand and think on the readings of the day. Within the left-hand side of the initial, someone has drawn a head in profile, with a rather bulbous nose. The fellow's mouth is open and something akin to a too-small speech bubble is coming out of his mouth

    Giving feedback on oral reports: I have everyone grade everyone and collect all the feedback. Then I read through the complete stack for a student and share to them 1) what their peers liked/found useful, 2) what they were curious about afterwards, and 3) how this ties to things we'll be doing later in the semester.

    Student response has been over-the-top positive!

    A colleague once taught me an important lesson:

    Never start on a Friday that which cannot be completed on a Friday.

    In that same spirit, I am going to say:

    Never start in the last hour of the day a project which cannot be completed in the remaining minutes available to you.
