ramble81 , to Nostalgia in Battle of the 90's copycat movies. Deep Impact vs Armageddon. Which one did you enjoy more?

I liked the realism of Deep Impact. Armageddon was way way too cheesy. There is no way they’d send drillers up rather than teaching astronauts but they wanted their “common man you can relate to, saves the day” trope.

ramble81 , to politics in House GOP weighs inviting Netanyahu to address Congress

Now if only we could arrest him for violating international law while he was here…

ramble81 , to Nostalgia in Your biggest dilemma today was which cereal to pick.

Honestly you could redo it with the same sets and outfits and people would still watch it.

ramble81 , to politics in “I would be forced to mortgage”: Trump melts down on Truth Social as lawyers admit he can’t get bond

But I just saw Bezos’s ex-wife drop $680M to charities like it was nothing. Surely he, as a billionaire, could just drop that money too, right? I mean he only owes 2/3 of that amount, so it’s even less for him.

ramble81 , to politics in “Desperate” Trump’s inability to get fraud bond makes him “massive national security risk,” Dem says

So that’s an interesting question there. An elected official gets to see top secret information that anyone else would have to go through a stringent check on. Why shouldn’t the elected official be held to the same standard as they will be accessing the same information? Why does being elected override that?

ramble81 , to Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ in This community got removed from lemmy.world (again)

So did I miss a setting where an instance can ban remote communities for its user base? I know a user can ban individual communities now but I didn’t realize it could be done at an instance level for all users of that instance.

ramble81 , to CreepyWikipedia in Cortical homunculus - A distorted visual representation of the human form, with body part proportions analogous to the size of the area of the brain responsible for controlling them

Someone read the response to my comment on feet and sexual attraction.

ramble81 , to Europe in Angry stickers telling tourists to ‘go home’ appear on buildings in Malaga

So then how do you decide which tourist gets to go to keep it at an “acceptable” level? That’s the part that everyone always leaves out when they say “we’ll reduce tourism but not eliminate it”. What happens then ultimately is only the rich get to tour places and everyone else is restricted to what, their home town that they can’t leave?

ramble81 , to Technology in Google to shut down Keen, its experimental Pinterest-like social media platform

293 products and counting.

ramble81 , to Technology in After 114 days of change, Broadcom CEO acknowledges VMware-related “unease”

Yup. I’ve seen companies that wanted to “get to the cloud” and didn’t want to spend any money on redeveloping their systems so it turned into a lift-and-shift which just drove their costs up.

ramble81 , to Asklemmy in Lemmy, what's your internet speed in mbps?

1000/1000. Usually testing will show between 800-960 in both directions.

ramble81 , to NonCredibleDefense in The duality of Swede

SAAB cars were good, if not a little quirky

SAAB/GM cars just sucked.

ramble81 , to InsanePeopleFacebook in During mandatory masking sovcit went shopping, ended up shoplifting, now needs help finding the law that says it's free.

Geeze. That’s as bad as “there’s no price on it so it must be free, right?” argument

ramble81 , to Selfhosted in Docker or podman?

You rock! Yeah I just wanted to run the image first before building out the whole framework around it. This is what I was looking for.

ramble81 , to 196 in Protection Rule

My sister was adamant my niece wasn’t having sex that she was a “good girl”. I kept saying “you’re stupid if you believe that. Remember how you were when you were younger. I was definitely having sex in high school and I was a “good kid””. Guess who had to refrain from the “I told you so” when they found out she was pregnant.
