I was reading one of my Japanese graded readers (stories for language learners) on the flight (since even in my 40s, being strapped into a seat is a great homework aid), and I accidentally replied to the flight attendant bringing around food in Japanese.

I may now have started an irrevocable chain of events where I’m not addressed in English again for the whole trip 😨

Tried out shadow.tech for cloud PC & PCVR gaming while I'm travelling.

It worked reasonably well playing (No Man's Sky) in , but I wasn't able to multiplayer Age of Mythology across our home LAN network. To first order, this is because the cloud PC isn't on our LAN, but I connected it to our other computer via "tailscale" which should have mimicked them being on the same network. I remain rather baffled as to why that didn't work... 🤔

@elizabethtasker it could be IP address related - your home network will likely be 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x, but Tailscale creates a virtual adapter in the 100.64.0.0/10 CGNAT range. The game might not like using this range because it thinks it's not a valid LAN address.

@elizabethtasker oh, weird. I haven't tried gaming over Tailscale, I just use it to remotely access my NAS and growing collection of self hosted stuff. The only issue I've had which sounds kinda similar was when a device advertising a subnet is also accepting subnet routes. I could only connect to it via Tailscale, but not the LAN IP.

Weeeeeeee! JAXA's new #H3 launch vehicle shoots into the sky! Everything seems to be going well so far. The rocket is at 690km (higher than the International Space Station), moving at 4km/s.

Also, can we all admire the beauty of Japan's Tanegashima Space Center launch site?

The H3 rocket launches from Tanegashima Space Center. The sea can be seen just behind the rocket launch pad.

Tomorrow (Sat. Feb 17), will make the second attempt to launch their new heavy launch vehicle, the H3 rocket!

Launch is scheduled for 09:22 ... and 55 seconds... JST.

Last year, the first flight of the H3 ended in a RUD. As a result, the Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission--due to launch on the H3 in 2024--was delayed to 2026. So cross... everything... for tomorrow 🚀
