I have now completed the nine volume books series The Expanse by James A Corey, and what a ride it has been.

Its quite an extraordinary feat of sustained (coherent) imagination & I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who likes world-building SF.

With its multi-viewpoint narrative strategy but also with it central core of crucial characters, this is space opera of the highest quality.

And the finale is wonderfully pleasing in plotting terms!

Its been a joy!

@ChrisMayLA6 @Jennifer @Henrysbridge @bookstodon Not sure of another way of saying it but I feel that over the course of the whole series Amos suffers some character “drift”... Otherwise it's excellent.

@Jennifer @ChrisMayLA6 @Henrysbridge @bookstodon Yeah he's a really great Amos, and I'd have to re-read and re-watch to put a finger on what I mean by "drift" I think, but it doesn't ruin him at all.

@Jennifer @ChrisMayLA6 @Henrysbridge @bookstodon It would have been interesting to see how they'd portray Amos’ later... erm… progression. Shame it didn't carry on.

"Gen Z is bringing back reading," says The Week, which leads us to wonder what the heck it is we've been doing all these years. But, the publication explains, it's not just reading — it's real books, made of paper. Per research published in @TheConversationUS: "Gen Zers and millennials prefer books in print over e-books and audiobooks" which has manifested in an "unlikely love affair with their local libraries." Here's a breakdown of what might be happening. We want to know: How do you like to read these days?

if anything good can come out of the disaster at the #BritishLibrary, surely it’s a rethink of accepting digital “copies” as fulfilment of legal deposit. @bookstodon

Really enjoyed reading Shards of Earth by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

A pretty intense space opera. You don’t get a moment’s rest while you join Idris and his crewmates as they frantically hop from fire to fire through “unspace”, all with the eerie sense that something bigger is always just a page turn away.

Loved it, can’t wait to get started on the next one 👌🏼
