When I bought this titanium teapot as a gift to myself for finding a new job years ago I really felt bad about how much it cost— but I’ve decided it’s, in a way the ideal sort of expensive treat: absurdly durable, timeless, utilitarian, strange.

This one is going in my will. I hope someone takes it with them to space someday. (that is my new heirloom benchmark: how likely is this to be in the 1 ton allowance for those moving to the dyson swarm never to set foot on earth again?)

Moja nastoletnia siostrzenica Gaja zaginęła wczoraj popołudniem i szuka jej rodzina, i również policja.

Jeśli ją widzieliście prosimy bardzo o kontakt policjantami z Komisariatu Policji VIII w Gdańsku przy ul. Kartuskiej 245B pod telefonem 47 741 68 22 lub pod numerem alarmowym 112.

Zdjęcie młodej dziewczyny w czarnym topie, z ufarbowanymi włosami w kolorach czerni i czerwieni. Ma na szyi kilka naszyjników. Patrzy w kamerę.

Policjanci z komisariatu przy ul. Kartuskiej prowadzą poszukiwania 14-letniej Gai Lawdańskiej, która 28 maja 2024r. około godziny 14:00 po kłótni członkiem rodziny uciekła z domu i do tej pory nie powróciła. Gaja ma około 164 cm wzrostu, jest szczupłej budowy ciała, ma włosy krótkie dwukolorowe czarno-rubinowe, ma blizny po samookaleczeniach na udach i przedramionach. 14-latka ubrana jest w czarny t-shirt, krótkie czarne jeansowe spodnie, koszulę w kartę granatowo- czarną, którą ma przewiązaną w pasie, białe buty sportowe, ma ze sobą torebkę materiałową typu wojskowego khaki. Osoby, które widziały 14-latkę ze zdjęcia, mają informacje na temat miejsca jej pobytu, proszone są o kontakt z policjantami z Komisariatu Policji VIII w Gdańsku przy ul. Kartuskiej 245B. Tel: 47 741 68 22 lub pod numerem alarmowym 112.

    It is not an "inconvenient truth". It is not an otherwise robust instrument that is misused by some people with an agenda. It is not something that's pretty accurate but that is complicated by societal factors.

    It's bullshit. Bupkis. Bunk.

    As Johnathan Frakes says in that one show, "We made this one up. It's a total fabrication. It's pure fiction. It's a made up tale. This one was invented by a writer. It's an urban legend... that never happened."

    Don't forget. Remind yourself if you have to.

    @tillshadeisgone I too used to defend IQ but upon some self examination discovered it was because I tested very well and therefore wanted to think it was meaningful and important, and made me Special. Took some time to unfuck that.

    IQ pride is equivalent to wishing someone showed up at your doorstep saying "you're a wizard, Harry". It only makes people feel entitled, and then angry (or in my case, slightly sad) when they discover their score means bupkis in the real world.

    @breadandcircuses they also have a tendency to favour people with good spacial awareness. I have a buddy with aphantasia and boy does he have a lot to say about IQ tests 😂
