John Deere has laid off roughly 1000 workers so far this year.

But the company reported a profit of over $10 billion in 2023.

Its CEO received $26.7 million in total compensation.

And it spent over $7 billion on stock buybacks.

Textbook corporate greed.

@rbreich I always wonder who is supposed to consume their products, if corporations are no longer willing to employ people or pay them a fair salary?
Aren't they actively destroying their customer base with these actions?

Unfortunately American corporate culture is already spreading like cancer in Europe, too.

The number of active Mastodon accounts continues to drop, including here on Infosec.exchange, however it’s dropping slower than elsewhere. According to https://fedidb.org/software/mastodon we are the number 4 (soon to be number 3) most active instance. I’m not sure whether to be happy or sad.

@jerry I think the main issue with the Fediverse is a lack of diversity.

Overall it is very software focused, very political (left-leaning) and has lots of cat pictures 🐱.

People may not be interested in these things and may have difficulty finding people that share their interests or their political views.

It sometimes feels like an echo-chamber to me. Discussions need different viewpoints to be interesting and useful. If everyone already is on the same page, there's nothing to discuss.

Ich arbeite seit fast 35 Jahren im und seit über zehn Jahren liegt mein Fokus dort auf .

Die muss ihre Prozesse digitalisieren, um den *innen besseren zu bieten, aber vor allem, damit sie überhaupt noch arbeitsfähig ist.

Ich bin Fan von digitalen Lösungen. ABER: Unsere Angebote müssen sich nach Menschen richten, nicht andersherum. Daher unterstütze ich die @digitalcourage gegen jeglichen !!

@nilz @digitalcourage Digitalisierung an sich finde ich eigentlich ok.

Aber, dass ich ohne ein Smartphone mit einem von zwei Betriebssystemen (ich würde gerne z. B. Mobian nutzen) und ohne einen Account bei Apple oder Google nicht mehr existieren darf und ich Abstriche beim Datenschutz in Kauf nehmen muss (z. B. kein anonymes Bus-/Bahn-Ticket mehr), das finde ich persönlich nicht in Ordnung.

Digitalisierung von mir aus, aber wenn, dann bitte mit freien und offenen Standards und ohne App-Zwang.
