Maybe we need to make some space to have conversations about the way that rigid gender expectations can hurt people. I'm not talking about trans people, exclusively (in fact the trans people I know are among the most sophisticated when it comes to processing these kinds of events and emotions)

No, where I see a lot of unprocessed trauma flailing around putting everyone in a bad way is from cis people who have unexamined psychological harm due to their failure to conform to some gender norm. 1/

@futurebird I don’t care what gender drinks are, but it still gets in the way. I ordered a lavender Prosecco (delicious!). The waiter delivered it to the woman at the table. I didn’t know that drink wasn’t allowed for me.

Has anyone read any good math and science history nonfiction books recently? (pop nonfiction please) Are there any really good ones out?

@futurebird I enjoyed How to Not Be Wrong by Jordan Ellenberg. Each chapter addresses a different problem, and what math has to say about it. I like the “math is seeing patterns in the world” approach.

The very best journals, ceramics, clothing items, etc. are always made by some weirdo with a store that might or might not be open on any given day, if there is a store at all and it's not an etsy shop "on vacation" 8 months out of the year or a website and you have to email them.

"are you still making those blank books? I've love to buy another one..."
"nah, I need to walk in the woods for a bit... get centered."

I mean that's probably why they are such perfect journals...

@futurebird Twenty years ago, I moved into a house with a pool in a small town. Had no idea how to take care of a pool, so called the pool guy in town.

He said "No. I need time to do other things."

We talked for awhile, then he offered to come by and teach me how do it. He was a good teacher.
