#BirnamWood couldn’t be more different from #EleanorCatton’s previous Booker prize winning novel. It’s a fairly straightforward literary thriller and one that is very much of the zeitgeist with environmentalism, social media & billionaires under the microscope. Even the morally upright journalist thinks about his scoop as a path to fame. It’s very readable but also, particularly at the end, just a little bit silly. #bookstodon @bookstodon

@FrancescaJ @bookstodon Yeah. The end seemed wrong. “How do I wrap this all up lickety-split.” Was enjoying the first 95%, tho.🤷🏼‍♀️

Ever have days when you have so much going on that your insides are on perma-rev-up and you can't slow it down?

Today is that day. We finished spackling/painting all the spots where artwork was hanging, we've dusted, vacuumed, and prepped the house. Our painters were unavailable, so it was us.

By the time the showing and trial are over today, I'll need to unwind. Lucky for me, Hammy needs walking at just the right time. That always does it.

@infinitesoleil @bookstodon Oh wow. I forgot about this one. Amazing account of the war. We know so little here in the states. This is reminding me how very much books and reading are a way to know others’ lives and worlds.

Best way to start the week?

Reading a good book, or course.

“At an early age I learned that people make mistakes, and you have to decide if their mistakes are bigger than your love for them.”
― Angie Thomas, The Hate U Give

What are you reading this week?

My 2024 reading thread is below!

Book 1: On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden

5 stars

Stunning art, lovely found family, and a fun sci fi setting, all while managing to strike the perfect balance between cozy and yearning.

@hawksquill @bookstodon I’m reading this now. Actually, an audiobook from my local #library. (Not sure now what brought it to my attention; it was on a holds list for a few months, so popular I guess). My kids were undergrads in Troy and Saratoga & we were always driving the Mass Pike through the Berkshires, so I imagine the land and home tucked away there over the hundreds of years of the story.
